Chemt3am Final Reflections

Chemistry has been a great experience for me, although I struggled through it I feel as though I've learned and grown over the last 8 months. In the beginning I thought this was just another science class that ill be able to just brush off my shoulders, but that wasn't the case not even a little bit. From the beginning until now this process has been about being able to come to an agreement to find answer discovering how one standard leads in to another. I did what I could to the best of my ability, but the learning overall could have been better and even my self motivation to push the learning process. Meaning yes, I enjoy the BYOD but it did not much benefit my learning, blaming no one but myself. I'm more of a student who enjoys getting homework, taking notes on paper, going up to the board, and being more hands on with my learning. Why? Because this process is what helps me to take in everything being thrown at me whether its hard or easy. Having my device put me in the learning environment but took the learning away from me. I've always been known to do my own work, come up with my own answers, and believe that only i was right but this chemistry class has taught me to open up to others opinion. For example: when we are working with our groups, white boarding, doing projects, or lab experiments I struggled but i struggled with my group and they helped me to get a better understanding whether that be breaking it down as we go along or writing it down and teaching it to me. This helps me to get more involved with my group, in the beginning of the school year I would sit on the side line and watch as my group did the work, now I'm on the floor helping them out with what I understood and giving them my thoughts on how i think we should go about creating an equation, or evaluating an experiment, or even finding a slope. #chemt3am Going back, I wouldn't change anything but I would most definitely tell myself that chemistry is a serious class and not to take the class lightly. If I would have asked more questions, took better notes, and reassessed when necessary I believe I would have seen the light at the end of the tunnel sooner than I have just now. Chemistry wasn't just science for me, chemistry was my dedication test dedication towards studying on MY OWN, focusing on MY OWN, and getting help on MY OWN. I've learned how to do all of those and so I say Thank you to my teacher of the year MR.ABUD!!!!!!!!! #chemt3am Part 2 Standard 4 I thought I always knew what a pure substance and a mixture was until now, but from my understanding a pure substance is one of the same kind of atom and a mixture is an atom of two or more kinds. Standard 5 Moles was a fun unit here I learned the how to use the mole/ gram equation you either get moles or grams by themselves. Learning that any and everything has moles and measuring atomic mass and the grams of something it is always possible to find the answer. That being the amount of moles in water, sugar water, iron, or oxygen. Standard 6 I enjoyed this standard, this is where we did the tape, paper, foil, and glass. Showing how electrons repel electrons, protons repel protons, and electrons and protons attract one another. Seeing which has a stronger force, which one moves and/or travels. Standard 7 This standards was the one i loved the most, I struggled with this one the most but this standard is all about being able to balance the beginning and the end. Being able to see and evaluated how the reactant comes to what is the product. Using the BCA chart to see where XS is or the how the ratio has come to 1:1, 1:2, or 3:2. Havinga formula like H20+ NCl and showing what the product is or telling if its a single replacement, double replacement, combustion, or decomposition.

Week Six Reflection

One unit down, and unit two coming up! Chemistry seems to be an on going process, as for some subjects that continue to start over. Have you ever wondered about the particles of a spoon, or a glass of milk, or even the oxygen we breathe in, or the carbon dioxide we let out? This week we mainly focused on becoming more closely involved with particles of solids, liquids, and gases and how one may change or form into another. As for in unit one where we stayed focused on how particles move around. Solids, liquids, and gases are the three states of matter that some of everything fall a pond. Matter never stops moving, even when things dont seem to be moving they are moving. Solids are the most dense, and have a resistance to flow, along with having particles that move around also known as the little lumps, who have the structure of lattice work that's keeps the particles from falling apart known to us as molecules. Liquids have particles that move a little faster than solids, but one thing you should know is that liquids don't have a shape or form at all except the container it's in. Molecules in a liquid are often lively, a free for all kind of thing, they are no longer in their normal lattice work.
As for gases they are the least sense with particles that move very easily.
Learning these things about solids, liquids, and gases are so interesting. Over the past week we did an experiment with dry ice, who would have ever thought it would be so engaging? Learning that dry ice is giving off a gas, while keeping things cold. By far the best part was seeing the water freeze underneath the ice. Another experiment that I found really intriguing was how we created a thermometer but going step by step to understanding the process of how it works and what we're doing.
This week in Chemistry has been a whole new experience!!!! #ChallengeAccepted #ChemT3am

Week Three Reflection

Ever had a class that your always excited to go to because you know you'll learn something new? This is how I relate to chemistry, it's very complex for me but I enjoy this class because we're always hands on and involved in everything we do. This week in chemistry was solely based on mass, volume, and density and being able to calculate the measurements to create a equation, graph and find slope. Slope being how the matter (mass) is distributed in a certain amount of space (volume) also know as the physical property of matter. Along with being able to express them in different forms such as algebraically or linguistic form.
Oh My, We had our first assessment this week, it through me for a loop while giving me the concept of how the assessment will be from this point on. On the other hand while trying to prepare myself for our first assessment, we learned how to become precise with our numbers (decimals) and accurate with the data we collect. Only to understand that if one piece of our data was inaccurate, it causes all of our information to be thrown off. These are just a few of many more things to come down the rode. Challenge Accepted! #ChemT3am

Week Two Reflection

This week was just as good as the first week, as we continue to get more involved in the knowledge of chemistry. As I continue to rise and get more in dept., with the study of understanding mass and the concept of how it does and does not change. Being able to see how the particles move, change, increase and decrease.
Week two gave us a feel on how the year will be working with models, equations, and measurements.
One thing that really stood out to me is how well me and my group works together, being able to work, laugh and still get everything done in a timely fashion. Week two for the most part brought everything together, and made me comfortable.
Although, in the beginning I wasn't sure this was a class I wanted to take I definitely don't regret anything now.

Week One Reflection

Science has always been my strong subject, it keeps me involved and wanting to learn more. I've taken physics, biology, and now chemistry and thus far chemistry is my favorite, while only having this class for one week. Every student wants that one teacher that stay interacted with them, makes us laugh while taking care of business, and doesn't stand in front of the class taking the entire time. Every teacher wants students who can handle some fun but knows how to get back on board when its time to work. That's what we've got with Mr.Abud, he makes learning fun keeping us engaged, curious, laughing, and putting our brains to work. Every one person has that one person or one friend who says that chemistry is hard or boring or just some kind of negative aspect towards the subject, shying a person of away from the class. As for me, I've heard it all but still decided to take the class, realizing that this class give you clarity and not just on atoms and chemicals one thing I've learned this week. Chemistry is a really hands on subject, that involves a lot of focus and determination, A challenge that I'll accept. This week with Mr.Abud has been about learning to come to an agreement, having our own opinions, and working together as a 7th hour chemistry class.
